How To Take Professional Interior Photos On an iPhone

A professional interior image using an iPhone

Let me show you how I take professional interior photos using only my iPhone!

Let’s be honest…I am no photographer.

I’ve never taken a photography class and I can’t even tell you the difference between aperture and F stop.

But since I started my Instagram account last year, I’ve had to learn a lot about faking it!

And not just faking it, but faking it with an iPhone!

In the beginning, it would sometimes take me over an hour to get ONE pic that I liked enough to post on my IG feed

Crazy, huh?

I wasted a lot of time learning what not to do.

So I thought it would be fun to walk you through a few things I’ve learned TO do when taking pics for Instagram…especially interior pics.

Tip #1

Wipe off your lens.

It sounds too simple, but it honestly makes a huge difference.

A quick swipe with your t-shirt is all it takes to make the crispness (is that a word?) and overall quality of your image much better.

Tip #2

Turn on your grid.

When trying to shoot professional-looking interior shots, it’s super important to have straight lines.

I rarely shoot with a tripod (although I highly recommend that!) but I make sure all of my lines are as straight as possible.

The easiest way to do this is to turn on your grid.  If you’re using an iPhone, simply tap Settings, Camera, and then enable the grid option.

Tip #3

Get familiar with the right apps.

I use Lightroom to edit all of my photos and I use the same presets for each image.

There are a ton of presets to choose from on the internet and I think it all depends on your style and budget.

I paid around $50 for my presets and it has been SO worth it.

I just slap the preset on the photo, touch up a few things and click save.

Tip #4

The Healing tool.

Man, this little piece of magic has saved me more times than I can count.

Forgot to sweep the floor?

Want to erase an ugly outlet in your photo?

No problem.

The healing tool in Lightroom can literally erase anything!

From the Lightroom app, simply click Healing and then adjust the size and feather effect on the left sidebar.

Click the spot you want to remove and voila…magic!

Although I hope to eventually purchase a “real” camera and learn how to use it, my iPhone has worked great for me so far.

These tips have helped me have a professional looking IG feed while being a super amateur photographer!
