My Statement-Making Laundry Room Makeover On A Budget

Laundry used to be a chore I didn’t particularly look forward to.

But after a recent makeover, it’s become one of my favorite spaces in the house!

When I started designing this space in my mind, I really wanted to make a big statement in this little room while staying on budget.

I wanted to create a laundry room that was both feminine and beautiful, a bit of a departure from my usual design style that typically leans towards neutral colors and organic elements.

Here’s how I did it!

Wallpaper

I’m not sure what came over me, but I was determined to use wallpaper in this space.

I’ve never used wallpaper in my home…ever! So this was a big deal for me.

I found a gorgeous print online and not only was it excellent quality, but the price point was great.

It’s amazing how wallpaper can transform a space, adding both texture and serious personality.

A Bold and Beautiful Start

I wanted to color drench the walls and cabinets in this room and my plan was to color match the blue in the wallpaper.

I did learn a valuable lesson through this process…it’s difficult to color match a piece of paper!

Instead of a solid color (ex. a paint chip) there are thousands of tiny dots making up the color on paper.

So, the color match machine really struggles trying to figure out which color you’re trying to match.

I actually painted the entire room and cabinets a color that was way too green and totally clashed with the wallpaper.

It took some trial and error, but I was able to create a custom color that works and I love it!

Faux Marble and Brass

I love a good DIY project, so I decided to add some unique, handcrafted touches to the room.

Using a 1×2 pine board, I created a faux marble look using this epoxy kit. I used this same kit on our camper reno and it’s so good!

Next, I made a faux brass rail using wooden dowels and my favorite gold spray paint.

Maximizing Storage with New Cabinets

Storage was a big priority in this makeover.

I added new cabinets and my favorite addition is the pantry cabinet. It’s perfect for storing vacuum cleaners, cleaning supplies, and other household items.

This cabinet helps keep the laundry room organized and clutter-free, making it not just pretty but also functional.

Using What You Have

This laundry sink is nothing to write home about. But I thought it was silly to put a new sink in just because this one wasn’t bright and beautiful.

I did put the same epoxy on the little countertop, but I kept the old sink and dated faucet.

I spray painted a wooden dowel for a hanging rack and used old frames I found in the garage. I found a couple of floral prints in Canva and printed them on brown paper…voila! Free art.

This laundry room transformation is a perfect example of how even the most functional spaces in our homes can still have character and look beautiful!
