Why I Chose Medley for My Living Room

When it came to my own living room, I wasn’t looking for something that just looked good…I wanted something that would actually hold up.

Because we’ve all had that piece of furniture that looks amazing at first…and then a year later it’s sagging, worn in weird spots, and just not it anymore.

I didn’t want to deal with that…especially with 3 sweet babies, a husband and a puppy running around 🙂

The Sofa

I went with the Rio Sofa (98″) in Aster Velvet Taupe from Medley, and honestly…the biggest reason is what’s inside it.

Most people never think about that part, but it’s super important.

This one uses natural latex instead of the typical foam, which basically means:

  • it keeps its shape way longer
  • it doesn’t get that hot, sinky feeling
  • and it just feels good every time you sit down

It’s one of those things you don’t fully get until you actually sit in it…and then you’re like, oh…this is different.

The Stuff You Don’t See (But Matters)

There’s also a layer of wool wrapped around the cushions…which I didn’t even know was a thing before this, but it helps regulate temperature and keeps everything feeling soft without breaking down.

And the fabric (because I know velvet can feel like a bold choice)…is actually really durable and easy to live with. You can spot clean it, steam it…it’s not nearly as high-maintenance as people think.

The Frame (Lowkey the Most Important Part)

No one talks about this, but they should.

If the frame isn’t solid, it doesn’t matter how pretty the sofa is.

This one is made with FSC-certified wood and built really well, so it actually feels substantial…not lightweight or hollow.

The Chairs

I added the Eim Accent Chairs in Ponderosa Parchment, and I love them because they’re not trying to perfectly match the sofa.

They’ve got a little texture, the walnut frame warms everything up, and it just makes the room feel more layered and natural.

Even my dad comments on how comfortable they are every single time he comes over…which honestly says a lot 😂

What I Actually Care About

One of the biggest reasons I felt good about going with Medley is how thoughtful they are about what actually goes into their furniture.

They prioritize non-toxic, eco-certified materials—things like natural latex, wool, and responsibly sourced wood—so you’re not bringing a bunch of unnecessary chemicals into your home. Everything is backed by third-party certifications and designed to be low or no VOC, which just gives you peace of mind, especially in a space you’re living in every day.

At the end of the day, I’m not just picking pieces because they’re pretty.

I want:

  • things that last
  • materials that feel good to live with
  • and a space that still looks just as good years from now

Everything is made here in the U.S., and you can tell there’s real craftsmanship behind it.

The Bottom Line

If you’re working on your living room, don’t overthink it!

Get your main piece right…your sofa matters more than anything else in the space.

Then layer in pieces that add a little contrast instead of trying to match everything perfectly.

That’s really what makes it feel finished.
